Steal Fish Eggs: How to Get Rare Eggs (What's Actually Confirmed)
A sea turtle egg with a Rare tag is confirmed obtainable through normal egg-stealing. Here's what changes when you chase a rare egg — and what you can't control.
There is currently no confirmed way to target a rare egg specifically. The one documented rare egg — a sea turtle egg with an on-screen "Rare" tag, obtained in the Pearl Lagoon area — was acquired through exactly the same egg-stealing process as ordinary eggs. What you can do is steal eggs normally and treat rarity as a bonus outcome, not a selectable one.
The confirmed route to a rare egg
The only observed rare-egg acquisition used the standard procedure:
- Swim to a guarded egg and evade or outswim the protecting fish.
- Grab the egg — in the confirmed case, this produced a sea turtle egg tagged "Rare, bro. Rare."
- Place the stolen fish/egg in your tank.
- Hatch the egg.
No special prerequisite, tool, location requirement, or targeting step was demonstrated for the rare sea turtle egg versus basic eggs — the same player who got the Rare sea turtle egg also collected a snowfish egg they called "basic" using identical stealing. If you haven't learned the base process yet, follow the regular egg-stealing guide first, then simply keep stealing eggs.
What you control vs. what you don't
Confirmed player choices:
- Where to swim — distinct areas shown include Coral Reef, Deep Ocean, Pearl Lagoon, Snowy Sea, and Volcano.
- Which guarded egg to attempt.
- Swim speed and evasion during the steal.
- Tank and equip-slot management for placing the stolen egg.
- Whether to hatch it.
Not established:
- Any way to influence which rarity an egg will be. The same activity produced both a Rare and a basic egg, with no documented selection or luck mechanic.
- Whether egg rarity differs by area (for example, whether Pearl Lagoon is better than other zones) — this remains unknown, so don't assume one zone is better.
- Any link between the game's stated goals (training in the endless pool for swim speed, upgrading your pool and base, stealing fish from other players) and rare-egg odds.
Beware of hype claiming "rare, legendary" eggs are targetable: the game itself only states that rarer eggs exist to discover — it doesn't provide a mechanic that makes them selectable. Any tip promising a rare-egg location, timer, or guaranteed drop should be treated as unverified.
Two limits to keep in mind
- A rare egg does not guarantee a particular rare fish. The confirmed rare-egg outcome stops at the "Rare" label; hatching results aren't tied to rarity in what's been observed.
- The sea turtle egg is the only verified rare-egg target so far; other rare-egg identities and any acquisition differences for them aren't established.
If you obtain an egg with a "Rare" tag, that's the confirmation you're looking for — place it in your tank, hatch it, and see what emerges without expecting any specific fish.
